@elliebrunson joked with me after the fights, “Dad, do you realize how much money we wasted this weekend?” I laughed. But I knew that was the moment. A few days earlier I told my two kids who love the fights that we were going to the Mike Tyson fight. Once in a lifetime opportunity. You can’t not go. So we flew to Dallas. But I had to give them some ‘conspiracy’ culture first… Stood where JFK was shot. Walked the book depository. Looked out the window they say the ‘lone gunman’ Lee Harvey Oswald took the shot from. I definitely don’t believe that’s true. Met a guy on the grassy knoll who’s written multiple books on what really happened — he signed every one of them for me! Then brisket, because Texas. Then the Tyson fight. Face tats and all…! The fight was OK. So that same night we changed our plans and booked a flight to New York City. Next day: Madison Square Garden, just in time to see the GOAT, Jon Jones. New York style pizza before the fight. We found our seats, and 15 minutes later the craziest thing happened — Trump walked out and the whole building came unglued. So when my daughter joked about how much money we wasted, here’s what I told her: The most important thing we can spend money on is experiences. Cars break. Clothes wear out. Money comes and it goes. But standing there with my kids? Watching Tyson walk out? Screaming our heads off in MSG? Nobody can take that back. Those memories are worth more than all the money in the world combined. Spend it on experiences, with the people you love. Every single time.
