Google may say they don't penalize AI content, but here are the real results... But first off, with their SynthID, they can detect AI content. OpenAI and Anthropic both use their technology. Which, in theory, makes it easier for them to detect AI content created on other platforms as well. So even though they don't "penalize" AI content, when @lilyraynyc looked at 220 websites, 54% lost 34% or more of their organic traffic, 39% lost 50% or more, and 22% lost 75% or more. In some cases, many of these sites went backwards and had less organic traffic than before they started posting AI content. Now I don't think this is purely happening because AI. I think it is happening due to how humans use AI. Lets say it takes you 2 hours to write a piece of content. Now instead of doing it within 10 minutes using AI... You spend 2 hours using AI combined with a human. In other words, you are using technology to create a better output. It doesn't mean the technology sucks, it means people who are using it are focusing on time optimization instead of output optimization.
